AGA Communications Awards

AGA Gaming Hall of Fame Gala

The Gaming Hall of Fame Charity Gala is an annual event organized by the AGA and its members to honor achievements in industry leadership and entertainment. Induction into the Gaming Hall of Fame is the highest honor accorded by the gaming-entertainment industry. Each year, individuals who have distinguished themselves through significant contributions to the industry receive this distinction. More than 80 people have been inducted into the Gaming Hall of Fame since its inception in 1989.

Richard Sturm
President and Chief Operating Officer
MGM Resorts Entertainment & Sports

As President and Chief Operating Officer of MGM Resorts Entertainment & Sports, Richard Sturm is responsible for overseeing all of the company’s entertainment and sports programming.

Sturm’s achievements in the industry span more than 35 years during which he has been instrumental in the development of many of Las Vegas’ highest-profile entertainment projects. Over this time, Sturm has led the efforts in the company’s highly publicized and often-televised sporting events as well as the entertainment/television programming.

MGM Resorts’ properties consistently host top-grossing boxing events, hugely popular Ultimate Fighting Championship, and the biggest shows in the industry such as the Latin GRAMMY Awards, iHeartRadio Music Festival and Academy of Country Music Awards (ACM), to name a few. Through Sturm’s efforts, the MGM Resorts brand is synonymous worldwide with the most popular entertainment and sports events.

Wayne Newton

Known as “Mr. Las Vegas,” Wayne Newton is recognized worldwide for his signature song, “Danke Schoen,” plus many hit singles, including “Daddy, Don’t You Walk So,” “Red Roses For A Blue Lady” and “Years.” Originally signed in 1958 by the Fremont Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas for a two-week engagement, his fist casino appearance lasted for 46 weeks. After numerous appearances on Jackie Gleason’s TV show and five years as an opening act for Jack Benny, Wayne Newton became a Vegas headliner in 1963 breaking box office records at The Flamingo Hilton. By 1994, he had performed 25,000 shows in Las Vegas. He has appeared in numerous films and TV shows, has recorded and released 165 albums, has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and has been honored with numerous awards, including induction in 2000 into the American Gaming Association’s “Gaming Hall of Fame.”
