Since the United States Supreme Court overturned the federal Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA) that exempted several US states from a blanket ban on legalized sports wagering, much attention is being given to the anticipated forthcoming explosion of legalized sports betting in North America. With many states already implementing legislation enabling sports betting and others rapidly exploring its benefits and challenges, what are the potential issues that operators and regulators will face in jurisdictions where it previously has not been allowed? This session will explore critical questions like the licensing of operators who have a history of "gray market" or "black market" activity, what the role of professional sports leagues should be, whether the existing sports betting technology is capable of supporting rapid growth, and more.
