Cheryl Alonzo has nearly 20 years of experience as a gaming regulator. She joined the Missouri Gaming Commission staff in 2000 and has held several audit positions at the Commission until her current appointment as Assistant Deputy Director of Compliance. Cheryl supervises a staff of 29, with management oversight of five sections including Tax Audit, Compliance Audit, Policy, Table Games Compliance, Charitable Gaming and Fantasy Sports Contests. During her tenure, Cheryl Alonzo has developed new rules and regulations, all the while reviewing existing regulations for obsolete content. Cheryl holds a key role on the MGC Discipline Review Board and was instrumental in developing a standardized procedure which allows casinos to request variances to existing rules which enables the casinos to modify business practices to meet their needs. Over the years Cheryl’s experience has been valuable in developing quality audit programs to make the best use of State resources. She served as a witness in federal court for the prosecution of a 2.1 million dollar jackpot theft case, the outcome of which led to conviction of the perpetrators and the collection of additional gaming tax revenue. Cheryl currently sits on the Institute of Internal Auditors’ Gaming Audit Advisory Board. She has both an undergraduate business degree and an MBA from the University of Missouri – Columbia, and holds a certification in internal audit since 2002.
