From the Desk Of…Shauna Williams, Executive Director of Communications, Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma
“From the Desk Of…” is a series from the G2E Insider written by G2E community members to share their knowledge with the wider gaming industry. In this edition, Shauna Williams, Executive Director of Communications at the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma, reflects on her journey into the gaming industry, her first G2E experience, and the powerful role of storytelling, leadership, and cultural identity in shaping the future of tribal gaming.
My path into the gaming industry has always been guided by a love for storytelling and a commitment to elevating voices that deserve to be heard. Over the years, I have had the privilege of supporting leaders, teams, and communities whose work shapes the future of tribal gaming. But in 2025, I stepped into a new space, not behind the scenes but on stage, as a panelist at the Global Gaming Expo.
I attended G2E with purpose. I was invited to join a powerful group of Indigenous women for the session Emerging Influence & New Paths in Tribal Gaming, a conversation centered on leadership, cultural identity, and the evolving roles Indigenous women are carving out across the industry. Saying yes felt both natural and necessary. It was an opportunity to contribute to a dialogue I care deeply about: how we create space, visibility, and momentum for the next generation.
That session became the defining moment of my first G2E. Sitting alongside women who are not just rising through the ranks but reshaping them was energizing. We spoke openly about navigating male-dominated environments, honoring cultural values in modern leadership, and the importance of mentorship and sponsorship. The room was full, the questions were thoughtful, and the sense of community was unmistakable.
The connections that followed have already influenced my work. Conversations sparked new ideas for how communications can better support Indigenous leadership pathways. Insights from attendees reinforced the need for storytelling that reflects authenticity, sovereignty, and innovation. And the relationships built there will continue to shape my growth in the years ahead.
G2E is valuable because it brings together the full ecosystem of gaming: operators, innovators, regulators, and culture-shapers in one place. For first-time attendees, my advice is simple. Show up with intention. Engage deeply, listen openly, and do not underestimate the power of sharing your own story. Sometimes the most meaningful impact comes from stepping into the spotlight you did not realize you were ready for.
